10 basic rules in the case of an accident

  1. Secure the scene of the accident. Call the police immediately and if necessary, an ambulance.

  2. Look for witnesses who can testify how the accident happened! Passengers are also possible witnesses.

  3. Take photos that show how the accident happened and the actual damage. Do not move anything until the police arrives. If something is moved, make a sketch or a take a photo.

  4. If a driver admits being to blame, you should have his recognition of this and his fault be confirmed in writing where possible. Do not trust in an oral recognition of the person who caused the accident!

  5. Do not make any statements on the question of fault that are detrimental for you - even if you are put under pressure - to the police or other people involved! This goes for oral and written statements.

  6. When the police arrive at the scene of the accident, note down the name and station of the reporting officer.

  7. Exchange insurance details and addresses with the driver! Have him show you his ID card to be on the safe side.

  8. If you are in pain or injured, go to the doctor immediately and have him record these.

  9. Make an appointment with our office right after the accident. Even in the case of "clear" cases, this prevents you from suffering from legal or property losses.

  10. If the insurance company calls you or contacts you in any other way: Do not make any agreements with the insurer. Refer the insurance company to your lawyer.

You can print these 10 points out if you wish and put them in your glove compartment, so that you always have them at hand in the case of an accident.
