Our fees

Fees for advice given by a lawyer

Since 1st July 2006, there has no longer been a legal basis for the fees charged for out-of-court advice, as legislation requests the client and the lawyer to mutually agree upon the fees (§ 34 German Lawyers’ Fees Act). Thus, we conclude a remuneration agreement with you at the beginning of our advisory activities.

Fees for further legal activities

The remuneration for our activities is either determined by an agreement customized to you or by the legal requirements contained in the German Lawyers’ Fees Act.

Remuneration agreement

At the beginning of our advisory activities, we conclude a remuneration agreement with you.

The first question that concerns us is: “How much is good advice worth to you?” For this reason, we are happy to discuss the estimated extent of your case in advance and our services related to it. In doing so, you can judge the cost-benefit ratio at all times.

It is necessary for concluding such an agreement for us to draw up an agreement with you that determines which activities are to be covered by the remuneration agreement.

Our fees can be negotiated, yet the following principles apply:

  • Our hourly fees start from € 180.00 per hour.
  • All outlays, travel costs and expenses are to be reimbursed separately. This also applies to VAT.

Charging fees below the statutory fees in line with the German Lawyers’ Fees Act is not permitted in legal proceedings.

German Lawyers’ Fees Act

In the cases where we do not conclude a remuneration agreement, we invoice you depending on the value of the matter in accordance with the applicable statutory fees schedule. In this case, the amount of lawyer’s fees depends on the value of the matter of your case. At the beginning of the mandate, we will give you a list of costs that result from a statutory remuneration table. Of course, this can only be as precise and binding as our knowledge of the matter up till then.

You can find general information about lawyers’ fees in an information brochure by the Federal Chamber of Lawyers, which you can download here (PDF, German).

Will my legal protection insurance pay the fees?

Contingency fee

In the meantime, contingency fees are permitted in Germany under very strict conditions. We do not exclude ourselves from this but only find it sensible in exceptional cases. Please contact us if you require more information about this matter.
